What Do Meeting Planners Want? Development Counsellors International Offers Some Answers

More than 200 meeting professionals were surveyed by New York-based Development Counsellors International and some of the revelations that came from the survey were some of the main obstacles meeting planners face when planning a meeting or event. According to the report, more than half of all planners felt their budget was limited and many felt their workload was overwhelming. And while the study showed only half of survey planners use CVBs to plan their events, Visit Orlando’s Director of Destination Services, Adrienne Six, CMP, shares why planners should enlist the help of the DMO to save them time and money.

“Staying within budget goes beyond just monetary budget, but also includes the time that the planner must take to make it all happen. We can help save you money by saving you time through finding the right off-site venues, efficient transportation, the perfect hotel, and meeting space that feels like it was custom made just for your event. Visit Orlando can even assist with your marketing efforts with complimentary enhancements to your marketing plan like collateral materials and Orlando’s attendee guide,” says Six.

The resources a DMO or CVB can provide are very beneficial.  With the growth of international markets in conventions, the DMO can be the local resource to help.  This can include providing contacts with local government agencies or embassies to help with letters of invitation, working with the local airport to provide enhanced services for customs processes and information to educate your international attendees on the entry and exit processes for the airport, as well as often provide collateral or information on the destination in other languages.  It is always advisable to connect with the DMO of the destination you are meeting in to find out what is available.  From the smallest to the biggest request, the resources are there, which ultimately saves time and money in the long run.
