As the 9th busiest airport in the U.S., MCO welcomes over 57 million passengers annually on more than 35 airlines, many providing non-stop service to Orlando from over 150 destinations worldwide.

To continue to meet the growing needs of business and leisure air travelers, the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) has unveiled a new strategic vision to guide the future of Orlando International Airport (MCO) over the next decade. This includes a $5.9 billion investment in projects that will expand capacity, modernize airport facilities, and further elevate the overall travel experience by 2030.

Upgraded Tram System

The $253 million Gate Link Replacement Project will upgrade the airport’s automated Gate Link tram system to deliver a smoother, faster and more reliable passenger experience. Four brand-new Gate Link tram vehicles moving along an upgraded traction system will be able to service a higher capacity of passengers traveling from Terminals A and B to Gates 70-129 on Airside 2 and Airside 4. Also, modern and energy-efficient technology will improve passenger safety and reduce environmental impact.

Elevated Concessions

MCO’s Concession Master Plan is reimagining concessions in Terminals A & B by redeveloping more than 200,000 sq. ft. of guest area to create modern, visually engaging spaces where travelers will experience Central Florida hospitality as they shop, sip and dine.

Planning and construction preparations are currently underway, with more than 40 new restaurants and retail locations coming, including local establishments such as Otto’s High Dive (a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand), Kelly’s Homemade Ice Cream and 4 Rivers Smokehouse (multiple locations). Phased openings are scheduled for summer 2026 through late 2028.

Baggage Handling Improvements

To expedite waiting times for luggage to better cater to the airport’s wide cross-section of tourists and conference attendees, numerous improvements are under development for the infrastructure of the Baggage Handling System in Terminals A & B including a major renovation.

Increased Parking Capacity

To make it easier and more seamless for travelers to find available parking, MCO will add 8,000 new parking spaces by 2030. Getting the locals off the roads and into parking spots faster will make the convention attendee journey to and from the airport quicker and more enjoyable.

To support this, three new parking lots are now open near the entrance to the Brightline Train Station near Terminal C, and passengers have an option to reserve parking in advance. Current projects include installing a new Parking Guidance System to help drivers quickly locate open spots, and converting the Terminal Top Parking Garage into dedicated Reserved Parking.

Also, early planning is underway for the Terminal A Garage and Rental Car (RAC) Expansion and the New Terminal C Garage and Rental Car (RAC) Expansion.

Enhanced Corporate Travel

MCO aviation partner Signature Aviation is embarking on $26 million redevelopment and expansion project that will deliver a new state-of-the-art Fixed Base Operator terminal and expand hangar facilities, significantly enhancing corporate and general aviation capacity.

The project includes a new 8,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art Fixed Base Operator (FBO) terminal, replacing the existing facility built in the 1980s, which will redefine the arrival experience for corporate and private aviation guests. The project also includes the construction of two new 40,000-square-foot aircraft hangars, adding much-needed hangar capacity to support growing corporate aviation demand.

Terminal C Enhancement Projects

The 2022 opening of Orlando International Airport’s (MCO) South Terminal Complex (Terminal C) made one of the best airports in the country even better. Always looking towards the future, MCO has already made enhancements with more to come.

Moving Walkways

In May 2025, moving walkways opened just beyond the TSA security checkpoint to provide an express lane to Terminal C’s naturally lit Palm Court, which features more than 30 retail, food and beverage options.

The moving walkways have a length of 132 feet — including the on and off sloped ramps that meet American with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. These walkways help assist those with limited mobility, as travelers exit the walkway adjacent to the staging area for mobility carts, which can carry passengers directly to their gate.

New Pedestrian Bridge and Rental Car Lobby

Moving walkways are also included in the new Pedestrian Bridge. In October 2025, a set of bidirectional moving walkways, including ramps, were opened with the bridge. Approximately 90 feet in length, the bridge walkways will be extended once the new Rental Car Lobby opens in 2026. As part of this program, a third set of moving walkways will be installed in the existing GTF Bridge.

The Rental Car Lobby (RAC) is part of Terminal C’s enhancement projects and is included adjacent to the footprint of the Pedestrian Bridge, a walkway between Terminal C and the Train Station complex.

As an extension to the Pedestrian Bridge, which is already complete with moving sidewalks, the project includes construction of a RAC Lobby with RAC counters, seating, restrooms and concession build out space.

Stay tuned for more updates as these innovative enhancements continue to take shape in the coming years.
