Convention weeks are a great experience for planners and attendees, but challenges can arise if they need to find health care due to an unexpected illness or injury that may befall them during the show. The new Orlando Health Virtual Care Center helps to alleviate the stress of finding the time and location of a physician’s office or facility by making high-quality health care easily accessible inside the West building of the Orange County Convention Center.

At the Virtual Care Center, launched in partnership between Visit Orlando and Orlando Health, attendees can see medical providers who will be able to evaluate medical conditions during large conventions. If minor care is needed, the Orlando Health team member working the care center can help connect visitors to a medical provider via a virtual visit in the center’s private room.

Virtual visit physicians can evaluate medical conditions including allergies, cold and flu symptoms, diarrhea, insect bites, pink eye, respiratory infections, skin rashes, sore throat, and sprains. They are also able to write prescriptions, which can be sent to a local pharmacy.

A visit summary is provided to the patient so they may share it with their primary care provider when they get back home. Visits will take approximately 30 minutes and cost $55, payable through a credit or debit card only. Health insurance is not accepted.

Phillips Hospital and Brian Comes, Chair, Board of Directors, Visit Orlando.

The Virtual Care Center is part of the new alliance that designates Orlando Health, a not-for-profit health care organization that serves the southeastern United States, as the Official Health and Wellness Partner of Visit Orlando.

While offering benefits for leisure travelers, the partnership provides specifically for event planners customizable health solutions for their conference and attendees such as the Orlando Health Virtual Care Center. Another resource is a concierge telephone number that can connect leisure and business travelers to local medical resources such as emergency care, urgent care or even access to a virtual visit while visiting Orlando. That number is 321-265-4200.

Even before attendees arrive in Orlando, they can find health and wellness information on a variety of topics, including tips on hydration, how to stay sun-safe and instructions on what to do in an emergency by visiting OrlandoMeeting.com/Plan/Healthy-Travel.

The partnership is an evolution of Orlando Health’s Business Ready initiative. Launched in May 2020, Business Ready was introduced to help the community, including the travel and tourism industry, to be prepared for reopening post COVID-19. It included a resource website for businesses and organizations as they prepared to resume business.
